When Citroën presented the SM with the Maserati V6 engine in 1970 , this car was unrivaled from the manufacturer's point of view and represented a new automotive category. The coachbuilder Chapron converted the SM into the Mylord convertible and made it even more extraordinary. In March 1970, Citroën presented the sports coupé created in collaboration with Maserati for the first time. The car could hardly be compared with other vehicles because, as a sporty and luxurious Granturismo, it had front-wheel drive and the hydropneumatic chassis familiar from the Citroën DS. Giulio Alfieri quickly developed the engine based on proven Maserati models. The result was a V6 aluminum engine with a displacement of 2.7 liters and an output of around 170 hp, which could be installed deep inside the Citroën Bug.
