From 1968 to 1975, BMW built the E9 series, which consisted of the 2800 CS, 3.0 CS, 3.0 CSI, 3.0 CSL and 2.5 CS coupés. 30,546 units were produced and not only attracted covetous glances in the showrooms, but also many touring car victories in racing as hot CSL variants. Large front and rear spoilers were still very rarely fitted to production cars in Europe in the early 1970s, but in 1974 BMW fitted very eye-catching air deflectors straight out of the wind tunnel to the elegant BMW coupé of the E9 series. On the road, the wings provided more downforce, but in terms of value development, they provided a lot of lift, especially in recent years. They played the dominant role in racing in the 70s: the BMW CSL Coupé, the Ford Capri and the Porsche Carrera.
