Those responsible at Bonhams will probably look back on the Monaco auction on May 13, 2016 with a smile and a tear in their eye. On the one hand, intense bidding wars resulted in record prices for some vehicles, while on the other, 44 percent of the cars on offer (including a go-kart) remained unsold, even though the prices offered were quite decent in most cases. The portfolio was certainly impressive, with rare racing cars as well as classics from the past, present and modern era (e.g. an Aston Martin One-77) up for auction. The total value of the cars amounted to around 22.6 million euros or 24.7 million Swiss francs. Each vehicle lot was therefore expected to fetch around EUR 565,000 or CHF 618,000.
