Thurner 1969-1974 - A special NSU

There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of which have disappeared. The Thurner brand can also be counted among them. Its founder, Rudolf Thurner, built a small gullwing coupé based on the NSU 1200 C, which at the time seemed almost futuristic, but was exceptionally successful in terms of style.

In the post-war decades, a whole series of sporty collector's cars were built in Germany on the basis of the market-dominating Volkswagen Beetle. Its platform frame was much better suited to special bodies than the self-supporting designs of the competition. However, the businessman and sports car enthusiast Rudolf Thurner from Bernbeuren in the Allgäu region chose the NSU 1200 C substructure, shortened by 10 cm, for his stylistically extraordinarily successful small gullwing coupé. Although the small NSU also had an air-cooled rear engine, it was incomparably more modern and more powerful than the VW.
