Summary
At the NEC Classic, the Silverstone auction house auctioned off 138 vehicles for a total of GBP 8.3 million. An average of GBP 73,500 was paid per car. Sporty Ford cars did particularly well, but the high-flyer was a Mercedes-Benz 600 SL, which was knocked down for more than double its estimated value after an almost epic bidding battle. This auction report analyzes the results and shows many of the vehicles in pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Over two afternoons, Silverstone Auctions auctioned 138 cars during the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham at prime time. Silverstone also offered automobiles and two-wheelers. Over half of the two-part auction was dominated by vehicles from five brands: Jaguar (17 cars), Porsche (17), Ford (16), Ferrari (11) and Land Rover (10). The remainder was spread across a further 39 brands, many of which only offered one car each, such as Lotus, Honda, Citroën, Volvo and Vauxhall. All 16 Fords were sold, with the highest bids averaging 97 percent of the median estimate. The buyer paid GBP 63,000 for a 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1.
