Preview (beginning of the article)
It was a premiere. Never before had RM/Sotheby's auctioned cars in Switzerland. And it was also the highest RM/Sotheby's auction to date, as the auctioneer explained. As a Dutchman, he was actually only used to auctions at sea level, so the leap to 1800 m was a huge one. Around 180 to 200 visitors had gathered on September 17, 2021 at 17:30 to follow the auction. Around 40 percent were able to sit, while the rest watched the event, which lasted around 1.5 hours, standing. At just over 32 years old, the total of 23 vehicles were rather young, with an average age of just under that of a classic car. This was due to a significant proportion of younger super sports and off-road vehicles.
