RM/Sotheby's London auction 2023 - restoration objects rather than nearly new cars
Summary
As part of the historic automobile event "London to Brighton Run", RM/Sotheby's auctioned 62 vehicles and a large number of Graham Hill automobiles at Marlborough House in London on November 4, 2023. With an average age of 47 years, the classic cars on offer were comparatively young, with two fifths going under the hammer without a reserve price. With a sales rate of 71% and prices that were in some cases well below expectations, especially for classic cars that were almost as good as new, the auction ended less positively than hoped. This auction review analyzes the results and shows the vehicles in pictures.

Marlborough House, built in 1711, hosted an RM/Sotheby's auction on November 4, 2023 in the context of the "London-to-Brighton Run". Located in the heart of Pall Mall, Marlborough House provided the elegant backdrop for the auction of 62 automobiles and a variety of Graham Hill automobilia. This was not RM's first auction in London; in fact, the auction house has already gone under the hammer 16 times in the Thames city. However, it was only the second auction as part of the "London to Brighton Run". The 62 vehicles (including an F1 show car) represented a combined value of £23.6 million, meaning that each car is expected to fetch around £380,000.
