The competition between the major auction houses was fierce. RM Auction, Gooding and Mecum all offered fascinating vehicles and fought for the favor of the bidding public. While Gooding published 32 world records, RM delivered a solid result with some record-breaking splashes of color. Nevertheless, the sales rate of 89% is worth mentioning and the price level was also high, as the estimated prices already suggested. The total highest bids amounted to almost USD 100 million, with just under 120 vehicles on offer. Ford GT 40 sold for USD 11 million Lot 139, a 1968 Ford GT 40, described as a Gulf/Mirage Lightweight Racing Car, fulfilled the hopes of a fierce bidding war. The bids only stopped at USD 10 million, and the buyer of the car, which played an important role in Steve McQueen's Le Mans film in addition to many racing appearances, paid USD 11 million including premiums.
