In the fall of 2010, the doors of the Pontiac plant in the city of the same name in the north of Detroit were closed for good - one year after the last Pontiac rolled off the production line. General Motors had already plunged the city with the name of an Indian chief into misery once before: when it canceled the Oakland brand built there in the crisis year of 1932. However, the new Pontiac brand had already blossomed as a by-product in 1926. In 1935, the Silver Streak gave it its distinguishing feature: a band of parallel chrome stripes across the hood and later also across the rear. In Canada, the brand, which was positioned between Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, mutated into a "national brand" with some models built exclusively in this country.
