Cars of the Lloyd brand had already been built by Norddeutsche Automobil- und Motoren-AG (Namag) from 1906 to 1914. In 1950, Lloyd Motoren-Werke GmbH, also in Bremen, was newly founded under Carl F. W. Borgward. Within the Borgward Group, Lloyd produced the small cars, Goliath (Hansa from 1958) the medium-sized models and Borgward the larger models. The Lloyd 300, which went into production in mid-1950, was a small car in the pontoon style of the larger models, which was far ahead of the cabin scooters: central tubular frame, front-wheel drive, 2-cylinder 2-stroke engine, 293 cm3, 10 hp. Its wooden bodywork built on a hardwood truss frame with plywood cladding and imitation leather cover gave it the nickname"Leukoplastbomber".
