Before the engineer and designer Eberhard Schulz founded his engineering office for styling, design and racing, Isdera for short, in Leonberg near Stuttgart, he was involved in the development of the 928 and 924 models at Porsche and had worked for the tuning companies AMG and B&B. For the latter, he created the spectacular mid-engined coupé CW 311 with gullwing doors and 6.3 L V8 from Mercedes/AMG until 1978. This was followed by wind tunnel contract work and, at the 1983 Geneva Motor Show, the Isdera Spyder 033i, a streamlined, open two-seater without a windshield but with massive rollover protection.
