Historic Eifel tour in a classic car - a journey through nine decades
Summary
The Eifel Tour was held four times between 1923 and 1926, with each of the five laps being 33.2 km long. It took place on roads that were barely surfaced, so taking part was correspondingly dangerous. Almost a hundred years later, you have to search for the course of the circuit at that time, but the author of this article has gladly taken on this task and reports from a time when car races were still held on normal roads and through villages.

"The race track was 33.2 km long: on the day of the sports car race, it rained in torrents that you could have thought the world was coming to an end. ...storms and rain... so bad and so heavy that falling roofs hit a passer-by and a cyclist was thrown against a tree..." Of course, we are in the Eifel region, which is notorious for its weather. However, the description of the weather situation "in the Eifel mountains" is older. It refers to the Eifelrennen - then called the "Eifelrundfahrt" - of 1924, and the chronicler is the famous racing driver Rudolf Caracciola, who took part in the second Eifelrennen from July 17 to 19, 1924.
