It was certainly exciting to see how Gooding & Co would fare at their annual Pebble Beach auction. There was no shortage of rarities among the 146 vehicles on offer (including two motorcycles). The vehicles were estimated at over USD 165 million. On average, USD 947,175 was realized per car and, according to Gooding, 23 world records were achieved. Only two Duesenberg SSJs were built on a shortened chassis, both of which went to Hollywood stars of the 1930s. J-563 went to Gary Cooper, J-567 to Clark Gable. Cooper became a world star for his role in "High Noon", among other things. For the 1930s, the Duesenberg was an impressively fast car with a top speed of over 200 km/h. Now Cooper's Duesy is looking for a new buyer for a price in excess of USD 10 million.
