The 40th Geneva Motor Show, which welcomed almost half a million visitors from March 12 to 22, 1970, boasted many superlatives. World premieres included the Citroën SM, the Lamborghini Jarama 400 GT, the Monteverdi Hai and the Alfa Romeo Montreal V8, but there were also interesting innovations among the more affordable cars. Concept cars inspired people to dream. The mood was good, after all, things were only ever looking up. The starting point for the 40th Geneva Motor Show, which was held from March 12 to 22, 1970 in the Grand Palais on Boulevard Carl-Vogt, was excellent. After all, wages were rising, the economy was flourishing, customs barriers were being dismantled and the mood was great. Color television was on the verge of its breakthrough, Simon & Garfunkel were singing "El Condor Pasa" on the radio and the cinema was showing "Love Story" and "Aristocats". The exhibitors at the Geneva Motor Show could only hope for the best and they also prepared all kinds of surprises and brought many new products to the city on Lake Léman.
