Summary
The year 1954 was characterized by a strengthening of European vehicle production and the beginning dominance of Volkswagen in Switzerland as well. Only a manageable number of new models were on display at the Geneva Motor Show, including the first German post-war V8, the BMW 502. Minor improvements and optimizations dominated the range on show. In addition, the Mercedes Benz 220 and a number of special bodies, including the Beutler VW Coupé and a Panhard Coupé from Ghia-Aigle, were shown for the first time. The trend towards faux convertibles was clearly recognizable. This salon review summarizes the most important events and new releases and shows them in almost 150 pictures, some of which have been published for the first time.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) was founded in Geneva. And Texas Instrument announced the first transistor radio. The world was literally electrified, but the automotive industry was still struggling with the aftermath of the Second World War and the problems of increasing production to keep up with demand. The announcements made by Dr. Heinz Nordhoff of VW regarding price reductions and increased output should also be understood in this context.
