Summary
In 1982, car manufacturers exhibited their new or improved models for the first time in the new Palexpo exhibition complex outside Geneva. The somewhat unadorned new halls were well suited to the sober economic climate, and the 25% increase in exhibition space was a sign of optimism, which was rewarded with an influx of over 585,000 visitors. Among the few world premieres were the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo, the Mitsubishi Starion, the Monteverdi Tiara and the Porsche 911 Cabrio. This report shows the exhibition and many exhibits in pictures and summarizes the atmosphere and innovations in text form, supplemented by the hall plan with all the new products.
This article contains the following chapters

Preview (beginning of the article)
In 1982, a car was equipped with a radio remote unlocking system for the first time (Renault Fuego), TCP/IP turned the Arpanet into the Internet, the computer began to penetrate more and more into everyday life (Time magazine voted the computer "Machine of the Year" in 1982) and the Geneva Motor Show was held in the new Palexpo exhibition complex at Cointrin Airport outside the city of Geneva for the first time from March 4, 1982, rather than in the historic halls of the Grand Palais. The move made it possible to increase the size of the exhibition by 25% to 40,000 square meters, but also meant the loss of the elegantly draped curtains, the urban ambience and many of the familiar features of the cramped conditions in the Grand Palais.
