The Pantheon in Muttenz near Basel can now look back on almost five years of business. Reason enough for Zwischengas to look back on the first few years and look to the future.
Everything divine
Stephan Musfeld opened the Pantheon in 2008 in the former premises of the Züblin repair and machine hall. The name Pantheon comes from the Greek and stands for "everything divine".
Covering an area of 7500 square meters, the circular building designed by "Toffol Architekten" contains everything a classic car enthusiast's heart desires.
The Pantheon pursues similar goals and approaches to those pioneered by the "Meilenwerk" in Germany.
On the one hand, parking spaces are offered for classic car owners with space problems and, on the other, the publicly accessible space becomes a museum at the same time. There are also special exhibitions every six months.
Large capacity for events
The large event area in the middle of the circular building offers enough space (around 1020m2) for all kinds of events.
Stephan Musfeld is satisfied with the development of the Pantheon. He now registers annual visitor numbers of over 20,000 people. Half of these are due to guided tours. Of course, these don't just bring classic car enthusiasts to the museum. They are often school classes or seminar guests from Basel or Muttenz. This is probably one of the reasons why the store with jackets, glasses, bags, books etc. is not yet able to generate the desired turnover.
Musfeld would also like to see more regularity in his own seminar rooms. He believes that much more could be done here.
Parking spaces fully booked
The parking spaces available for rent are fully booked and there is even a waiting list. The variety of vehicles, which covers many makes and body styles, is very pleasing.
Increasingly popular special exhibitions
Organizing the special exhibitions is becoming easier and easier for Stephan Musfeld, as vehicle owners now know who they can trust with their cars. Well secured, the cars are displayed at the end of the spiral corridor that runs from bottom to top.
Supplemented with historical photos and lots of information, the visitor gets a great overview of the exhibited brand or the central theme of the special show. It started with Alfa Romeo, followed later by Bugatti, MG, Ferrari, Bentley, etc.
Special exhibition Klausenrennen
An exhibition on the historic Klausen Race is currently on display. This exhibition will certainly not only shorten the waiting time for the upcoming event, but will also motivate many to take part in the "real" race!
Event area in own hands
Stephan Musfeld also wants to manage the event area, which has been leased out for the last few months, himself again.
He would like to see many more events and lectures. The area is calling out for such events. The highly interesting lecture by Dr. Heinz Rabe on "The life and work of the Porsche family" proved that many interested listeners can be found for such a presentation. Excerpts from the presentation can be read on Zwischengas!
Constant expansion and innovations
With the recently founded company "Auto Moto Klassik Pantheon Basel", the classic car and parts market no longer takes place in Basel's exhibition halls, but in the Pantheon's surroundings since 2013.
Meeting place for classic car enthusiasts
The in-house restaurant leaves hardly anything to be desired for visitors, which is also reflected in the daily large number of guests.
The many parking facilities around the house offer a further advantage for large and small club and private meetings. On balmy summer evenings in the garden restaurant, the cozy gasoline conversations among friends next to their own classic cars are becoming increasingly popular.
Further information, opening times, etc. can be found on the Pantheon website .
