Clénet 1975-1987 - Neoclassic
Summary
There have been around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of which have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Clénet, founded by French designer Alain Clénet. Designer Alain Clénet, who presented his first two-seater in 1976. This was successfully produced and sold and Clénet continued to produce up to the Series III. A legal dispute soon led to the closure of the factory. The successor company continued to produce the Series IV, but was unable to avoid bankruptcy a year later.

The success of the Excalibur brand launched in 1964 brought a whole series of imitators onto the scene. The Clénet was also a highly luxurious convertible in the style of the exclusive compressor models of the 1930s, but with the latest American V8 mechanics. For this so-called neoclassic design, the 6.6-liter V8 powertrain and the chassis from Lincoln-Mercury were probably used, but installed in a separate ladder-frame chassis. Clénet Coachworks Incorporated was founded in 1975 in Santa Barbara, California, by the French designer Alain Clénet, who had previously worked creatively at AMC and other companies. His two-seater, presented at the Los Angeles Expo Auto Show in 1976, resulted in a full order book.
