Preview (beginning of the article)
On April 29, 2023, Bonhams auctioned 35 cars of the brass era (predominantly) to kick off the Audrain Veteran Car Tour. The auction took place in Newport, Rhode Island. The collection, which also includes many automobilia and spare parts, was assembled by an enthusiastic father and son team over 70 years. Many of the cars were on the market for the first time in over 40 years. With the exception of three cars, all cars were offered without a reserve price. Their total value was estimated at USD 2.86 million, but in the end USD 3.758 million was realized. The average bid was 15% higher than the median estimate. One car even went for almost three times the estimate.
