Preview (beginning of the article)
As part of the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, Bonhams auctioned off 49 rare cars alongside a number of automobiles at the Villa La Vigie in Monte-Carlo on Friday, May 10, 2024. The vehicles were valued at a total of EUR 17.4 million and were on average 42 years old. Seven Aston Martins, six Ferraris and four Porsches together accounted for almost a third of the cars. 41% of the cars went under the hammer without a reserve price. Despite this, only 63% of the cars were sold. The biggest surprise of the Bonhams auction was certainly the Smart Fortwo City Car from 2012, which found an owner for an impressive EUR 31,944 (CHF 31,305) instead of the expected EUR 5,000 to 8,000.
