Preview (beginning of the article)
On February 7 and 8, Artcurial auctioned 124 automobiles in Hall 3 of Rétromobile Paris, 95 of which found a new owner and fetched just over 21 million euros, well below the previously estimated 30 to 40 million euros. For the first time, the cars were on public display for the trade fair audience prior to the auction. They were also auctioned on the exhibition area, for which some of them had to be re-parked or supplied elsewhere. Although a large number of chairs had been set up for bidders and the public, they were nowhere near enough, such was the rush. Even outside the fence surrounding the "auction room", many interested observers attended the auction. However, although there was considerable interest overall, many cars only went for just over the reserve price, such as the Jaguar E-Type from the first owner, which was considered more of a restoration object.
