Preview (beginning of the article)
Artcurial auctioned 89 cars and a few automobilia on July 21, 2020 from 5:00 pm in Monte Carlo. Matthieu Lamoure swung the hammer as auctioneer. The bidding public did not quite want to bite as planned. Only 47 cars (53%) were knocked down, while 42 vehicles were left standing. It is quite possible that international customers in particular stayed away from the auction and interest in the cars was correspondingly lower. In the end, total sales amounted to EUR 7.2 million (CHF 7.7 million), which meant a sales price (including commission and VAT) of EUR 153,000 (CHF 163,000) per car. On average, 78% of the median estimate was bid, which is actually not a bad figure, especially as the overall fluctuations were relatively small. However, there were several lots where the initial asking price was not met, even for "no reserve" lots.
