Summary
Just like in Europe, there are many historic racing events in the USA. However, what was missing from the whole range was a classic 24-hour race, such as the "Le Mans Classic" held every two years in France at the Sarthe. The American organization HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) recognized this and organized the first 24-hour race for historic racing cars. This took place on the weekend of November 16-18, 2014 on the legendary Daytona race track. Our race report shows all the action day and night and also tells the story from a driver's perspective!

Just like in Europe, there are many historic racing events in the USA. However, what was missing from the whole range was a classic 24-hour race, such as the "Le Mans Classic" held every two years in France at the Sarthe. The American organization HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) recognized this and organized the first 24-hour race for historic racing cars in the USA. On the weekend of November 16-18, 2014, up to 120 historic racing cars competed on the legendary Daytona race track. As in the Le Mans Classic, all participants were divided into six groups, each of which raced four times for 45 minutes, with one mandatory pit stop per race. However, the groups were defined differently for the 24-hour Daytona Classic, with pre-war vehicles missing completely. The oldest vehicles were built in 1959 and raced in Group A. While Le Mans Classic only accepts vehicles built up to 1979, vehicles built up to 2010 can register for the Daytona Classic. However, the reason for this difference is very simple: the 24 Hours of Daytona was first held in 1962, so it was pointless to include a group for pre-war vehicles.
