1928 was the year. The prominent touring and sports car manufacturer Georges Irat SA from Chatou near Paris brought a GP racing car onto the racetrack for the first time on April 15, 1928. The Grand Prix de Maroc, starting in Casablanca, was the baptism of fire. The Georges Irat GP6 complied with the regulations of the new Free Formula, which was to be valid for the years 1928 - 1933. A minimum weight of 550 kg and a maximum weight of 750 kg were stipulated. The engine capacity was not limited and the FIA stipulated a race distance of at least 600 kilometers for the organizers. The GP de Maroc was held on the 709.66-kilometer triangular route Casablanca - Marrakesh - Ounara - Casablanca. A pure road race, on very bad, sometimes dead straight, dusty gravel roads, through the middle of villages!
