For years, the Swiss Classic British Car Meeting in Morges has been spoiled by the weather and up to 1500 classic British cars adorn the quay on Lac Léman in the autumn sunshine. For many classic car enthusiasts, this meeting is the crowning glory of the season.
Lucky weather
The weather forecast did not bode well for October 5, 2019. The pessimists therefore slept in and didn't even get their classic cars out of the garage. In the morning, the weather was really nasty, windy and a little wet.
Towards midday it became noticeably warmer, blue holes appeared in the gray sky and soon the sun was shining!
The queue at the entrance grew to a considerable length, and those who arrived around midday needed almost an hour of patience before they could park their classic car.
The guests of honor
Three brands were welcomed as guests with milestone birthdays this year: Alvis and Bentley (100 years) and the Classic Mini (60 years). Around a dozen Alvis and pre-war Bentleys gathered in the reserved castle courtyard.
The small, cheeky and colorful Minis, on the other hand, mingled like an exploded bag of confetti with the vehicles on display on the quay.
Anyone who couldn't fit their little bouncer of just over four square meters into the hustle and bustle of the other vehicles could place it at the end of the lakeside promenade with the other Minis, which lined up like a string of pearls and marked the end of the classics on display.
Cross-section through history
Although there were fewer pre-war classics than in other years, in 2019 Morges was once again home to a fine collection of English marques from bygone days.
Rarities
Visitors were also able to see some particularly exotic specimens, such as a Land Rover 101, a military ambulance and a shortened Mini.
About the cars
Catering stands catered for the physical well-being of the visitors and one or two spare parts dealers were also to be found.
As every year, the main attraction was of course the colorful mix of vehicles that make this event in picturesque Morges against the backdrop of Mont Blanc and Lac Léman so unique.
Participants were spotted from all over Switzerland and from neighboring countries.
Here's to a new one!
After the meeting is before the meeting and so we can already look forward to seeing which guests of honor will be welcomed in 2020.
The event has long been established and will certainly be the highlight of the classic car season again next year for many.
