The international VW meeting in Château d'Oex took place for the 20th time at the weekend. This festival, which takes place every two years on a weekend in August, brings together well over 1000 Volkswagens, whether Beetle, Bulli, Buggie or Karmann - as long as they are air-cooled - in a friendly and idyllic setting.
Impressive diversity
This meeting also attracted passionate Beetle, Buggy and Bulli owners from all over the world on the weekend of August 25-27, 2017. The view from the Col des Mosses towards Château d'Oex of the huge area full of Volkswagens was far more than impressive. Hundreds of Volkswagens were parked car after car on the large field.
In the background, there was also the huge Bulli standing between two palm trees, which decorated the meadow below the chapel for the 20th anniversary. This 4200 square meter painting was designed by a landscape artist and is expected to last for around three months.
In a tent or caravan
Of course, people camped on site either in a van or in a tent. And of course there was no shortage of beer or wine in the evenings.
The condition of the cars ranged from unrestored with patina and from first ownership, to 100-point Pebble Beach restorations and pimped-up tuning vehicles.
Help for everyone
Of course, dealers and parts suppliers were also part of the meeting. And for all those who lost their ignition key in the commotion, help was immediately available on site.
Hard work
The question of the weekend was probably: How many people can fit in a VW Kübelwagen? 17 in any case, and the sprightly off-road VW even manages to pull a full-size van.
Sweat because it's hot?
The weekend was definitely hot, not only did the high temperatures let the sweat run free, but the events surrounding the meeting also suggested a long, warm night.
