Summary
Pietro Frua was a master of secondary utilization. He also reused the body he had created for the Glas GT after the end of its production and fitted it to the platform of the Ford Escort with economical modifications. Two such coupés with different engines were created, but the hoped-for small series production did not materialize. Both cars survived. This report looks back at the development of the two coupés and shows them in contemporary and present-day pictures.

After production of the Glas 1300/1700 GT successor BMW 1600 GT was discontinued in August 1968, Frua was able to use its design freely again. On November 10, 1970, he registered the project number 369 for a coupé based on the modified Glas GT body on the "chassis" of the Ford Escort 1300 Mk1. After the VW notchback saloon (1961) and the Opel Kadett A Spider (1964), this was to be his last attempt to do business with a mass-produced manufacturer of a successful compact car. The wooden model of the GLAS GT was still in Frua's workshop and with a few strokes of chalk he sketched the changes directly on the design drawing of the Glas GT: he extended the front end with retracted headlights and an air intake under the bumper in the style of his Maserati Mistral, and at the rear the fastback was modified to a slightly indicated notchback with rectangular tail lights.
