Summary
Volvo built the 262 C coupé together with Bertone from 1976 to 1982. David Bowie also fell for the charm of the unusual two-door car and bought a black 262 C in 1981, to which he remained loyal for several years. Today, we can only guess whether he listened to his own or other people's hits on the built-in cassette deck. This vehicle report portrays Bowie's Volvo and summarizes the history of the 262 C. A sound sample and historical pictures are also included.

Preview (beginning of the article)
David Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016 and became famous for his eclectic, trendsetting music, but also for his roles in films and his extravagant appearances. His relationship with cars was less publicized, although he once even customized a Mini to his liking and ran amok in Berlin in a Mercedes-Benz . Bowie was not averse to beautiful and comfortable cars, so he also owned a Bentley Corniche in the 1980s. But he also had a knack for creating special cars and the Volvo 262 C is certainly one of them. I wonder if Bowie still remembered the black Volvo coupé from 1981 when he was working on the songs for his last album "Blackstar" (written together). After all, the car was registered to him (real name David Robert Jones) for a few years and was on the road with Vaud license plates. And even after that, the coupé remained in the possession of his production company.
