Summary
Many cars today are said to have been ahead of their time. The TVR S, on the other hand, was deliberately designed as an old-fashioned reminiscence of days gone by - and fulfills this role so well that it is almost hard to believe how young it actually is. Because hardly any other nineties car offers such a sixties feel. This article describes the development from the S to the S4C and describes the impression behind the wheel of an S3C

It takes less than ten meters for the TVR to prove its origins as an English small series product. Even before the last wheel has rumbled down the curb at the driveway, the contents of the relay box pour into the passenger footwell. Panic reigns for a second, then reason catches up with emotion. Nothing smoulders, smokes or crackles, the engine continues to run unperturbed. If the tangle of cables were to be provisionally put back in its place, it would be back down there after five bumps at the latest. So you might as well leave it in the footwell. That's just the way they are, the English plastic roadsters of the early seventies - even if this example was only built in 1992.
