The name Invicta is one of the great English terms in automotive history. The brand was founded in 1924 by Captain Noel Macklin and existed until 1936. During this time, however, a number of cars were produced that helped the Invicta brand to achieve immortal fame. Their quality was compared with that of Rolls-Royce and their sportiness with that of Bentley. Invicta's flagship vehicle was the Model 4 4/1 Litre S-Type, built from 1929 to 1934. This report (which is around 30 years old) describes one of these vehicles in detail and reproduces the driving impressions in a comprehensible manner, supplemented with many photos, some of which have never been published before.

The name Invicta is one of the great English terms in automotive history. The brand was founded in 1924 by Captain Noel Macklin and existed until 1936. During this time, however, a number of cars were produced that helped the Invicta brand to achieve immortal fame. Their quality was compared with that of Rolls-Royce and their sportiness with that of Bentley. The 4 1/2 liter S-Type model represented the pinnacle of production. It was built from 1929 to 1934 and was characterized by itslow chassisand low, elegant lines. In its basic version, the S-Type was a four-seater tourer, and this open-top high-performance car was used for long cross-country journeys as well as for racing. Among the highly acclaimed international victories were the first place in the Monte Carlo Rally of 1931 under Donald Healey, in addition to numerous successes in Alpine drives, circuit and mountain races.
