Porsche 912 - in the style of the new era
Summary
When Porsche replaced the 356 with the 911, the (price) leap was too great for many loyal Porsche customers. The 912, which saw the return of the four-cylinder engine in the new sports car, filled the gap between the 356 and the 911 and was obviously quite successful, as customers bought and the testers, in this case 'hobby', were impressed by the product. This article reproduces the original wording of the early 912 test and shows the car in historical illustrations.

No heritage protection for Porsche 'Beetle'! A few weeks ago in Zuffenhausen, a car body that was thought to be just as protected as the VW Beetle disappeared into oblivion. Not so long ago, it was a kind of status symbol for the economic advancement of particularly successful people, and the hitmakers hurriedly rhymed Dieter Borsche with Porsche. Years ago, they were the big stars: now they have both fallen under the second hand. The body of the new Porsche is more businesslike, more functional and more comfortable and is not even aerodynamically in the slipstream of its predecessor. Why shouldn't we be happy to accept it? And yet the former 'Porsche fan', the tester, is no longer willing to give in to the exhilaration of driving something special that engages all the senses, with the exception of the seat. The new Porsche drives the way it looks, namely matter-of-factly and comfortably: you are driven by it and are no longer part of yourself.
