When the Fiat 124 Sport Spider returned to Europe in 1982 under a false name, it was unrecognizable at first glance. But those who could look past the exterior soon realized that not so much had changed between the thick bumpers. At a time when reason increasingly ruled in automotive engineering, it was nice that it still existed at all. As the Pininfarina Spidereuropa, it was one of the last representatives of the classic two-seater sports convertible.

The second European career of the Fiat 124 Spider began with a blatant miscalculation. "We probably won't be able to sell more than ten a month," said Sales Director Dietmar Fütterer when the small sports convertible was relaunched in the fall of 1981. That's why there would be no special advertising for it. On the one hand, it would not have been necessary. After the end of the MGB in 1980, the Fiat and its Alfa Romeo equivalent were the last survivors of the great death of the small convertible. On the other hand, a bit of advertising would certainly have been helpful to make potential buyers aware that it still existed (or existed again).
