The second generation of the panoramic windshield Rekord continued the lineage of Rüsselsheim's mid-size cars, beginning in 1935 with the Olympia, and cemented Opel's reputation as a manufacturer of well-designed, reliable and affordable automobiles. The coupé, launched one year after the saloon, was not out of line. Nevertheless, there was a lot to report about the two-door model with the huge trunk... One must have the courage to throw prejudices overboard and admit mistakes. The writer was of the opinion that the Opel Rekord Coupé was nothing more than a concession to the tastes of a certain buying public - not exactly (to use the terminology of a successful colleague) established midwives and neglected general agents' wives - but something like this... The people in Rüsselsheim proved him wrong. The test car arrived in the evening, and the next morning it was to take the reporter and the photographer to the Geneva Motor Show with their luggage and equipment. After all, that's around 1000 km. The evening before departure, it snowed heavily and the next morning the landscape was covered in dripping slush: just the right weather to set off on a long journey under time pressure and in a car whose road holding is often criticized at all the regulars' tables in Germany.
