Over 35 years ago, Mercedes presented the superlative saloon, the W 126 S-Class, which was more aerodynamic, lighter and more innovative than all the competition. A long-term car in the truest sense of the word and still dewy today and available to buy as a five-liter V8 from a long-standing owner for the price of a used Vespa. Impossible? No, but interesting! The start of the development of the W 126 series was given in May 1972, when the predecessor 116 series - technologically innovative, visually comparatively conservative - was not even in the showrooms. But times had changed. The energy crisis and growing environmental awareness called for a restrained rather than ostentatious look, and the idea of saving fuel while increasing utility value was not to be neglected either. Professor Breitschwerdt and Bruno Sacco were the key players in the development.
