The Mercedes-Benz 280 SL of the W 113 model series and its direct predecessors, the 230 SL and 250 SL, are among the most popular automobile classics of all. Accordingly, much has already been written about them. That is why, in addition to a brief biography, this article focuses on special variants and versions that are less well known, but also offers driving impressions with a 280 SL with automatic transmission. For years, it has been one of the most popular classics in our part of the world, the W113 series, affectionately known as the "Pagoda", whose model variants were called the 230 SL, 250 SL and 280 SL. As the popularity of this Mercedes convertible increased, so did the number of reports about it, because German magazine publishers in particular had realized that magazines with the Pagoda on the cover sold better than others. Accordingly, much has already been written about the W113 model series. We will therefore limit ourselves to a brief outline of its history and some very special variants that some people may never have heard of.
