From 1982 to 1993, Mercedes-Benz built the 190 model of the W201 series. With over 1.8 million units produced, the new compact class was a success. At the top end was the elegant 2.6-liter version, which was fitted with the in-line six-cylinder engine from the larger model series. The superior running culture almost transformed the "Baby Benz" into a luxury saloon.
