The almost perfectly documented Mercedes-Benz model history harbors a great mystery: the Type 150 Sportroadster from 1935. Our author and photographer Wolfgang Blaube experienced the only surviving example of the fascinating mid-engined two-seater live behind the wheel - and found many previously unknown details in the fog of history.

What, dear reader, was the initial spark that ignited your personal passion for classic cars? What was the earliest automotive artifact from your childhood that sparked your enthusiasm for old metal? Was it a particular Matchbox car? A car magazine on grandpa's living room table? A poster on the nursery wall? Or a sports car quartet game? In my case it was a Mercedes-Benz brochure. Which is not only unusual in that I was socialized car-free, so to speak; none of my parents or grandparents even had a driver's license. No, what is more surprising is that the car brochure is from 1935, whereas I was born in 1963 - and that I still own this original piece of antiquarian automotive literature. It shows the then current Mercedes-Benz model fleet on 32 pages. From the Type 130 inside handlebars to the large Mercedes 770 touring car. And the racy two-seater on the sixth, by far the most worn page: the 150 Sportroadster.
