Lamborghini Miura Spider - galvanized one-off sports car
Summary
The most beautiful car at the 1968 Brussels Motor Show was the Miura Spider. After a further 800,000 francs were later invested in "galvanizing" the car, it remained "the most beautiful", but had become even more exclusive. Years later, the car mutated back to its original form. This report tells the story of the one-off, illustrated with some rare photographs.

Ferruccio Lamborghini had always claimed that he was not interested in motor racing and did not want to build cars for such purposes. At the Turin Motor Show in the winter of 1965, however, there was a chassis on the Lamborghini stand that led many to believe that the patron had changed his mind. The chassis was perforated like a Swiss cheese in order to save weight and was powered by a 3929 cc V12 engine. This was mounted in front of the rear axle and mated to a 5-speed gearbox. It was not until the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966 that the complete sports car could be admired. Bertone had built the body designed by Marcello Gandini, and the press agreed that something completely new had been created here - a sports car that put all others in the shade.
