The start of deliveries of the fastest model in the Audi 80 series in Germany coincided exactly with the start of the temporary speed limit of 80/100 km/h. Question: Does 100 hp still make sense? An evaluation of the Audi 80 GT must now deal with two conditions: How does it drive at 80/100 km/h? What market opportunities will it have in the future if it - hopefully - at least reaches 100/130 km/h? We therefore drove the test car in everyday traffic at a slowed trot, so to speak, and also tested its full performance on a closed test track. At 100 km/h in 4th gear, the engine speed is a modest 3500 rpm. This resulted in astonishingly low consumption values of around 8 liters/100 km on the freeway. The engine noise level remains pleasingly low; even the wind noise from the body, which increases sharply at higher speeds, is not yet noticeable.
