It was many years before Hanns Trippel was able to present the Amphicar, a sophisticated floating car with a Triumph engine that cut a fine figure both on land and on water. In any case, the magazine 'hobby' was convinced in its test from 1962. When I pulled into the parking lot in Berlin-Tempelhof with my red Schwimmwagen to return to the 'third element' after an exciting test drive over water and land, a couple of cab drivers surrounded me: "Gee, Otto, it's the Schwimmer! Colleague, can you turn the propellers, can you do that? Gee, Emil, that would be a job, a water cab on the Wannsee, or simply through the Teltow Canal during traffic jams.... .!" Wherever we went in Berlin with the Amphicar, the car was greeted with interest, pleasure and friendly comments. We want to do the same in our test. The tester is not new to Schwimmwagens. He has been an expert in this field for two decades, so to speak, because long before the then sensational VW Schwimmwagen came out, he was reviewing amphibious vehicles by the man who also created the Amphicar, Hanns Trippel.
