50 years of the Ford Fiesta can be celebrated in 2026; production began in May 1996. What began in 1972 with the " Bobcat " project resulted in an attractive small car with three doors and plenty of interior space in a compact footprint. Henry Ford II himself chose the name "Fiesta". Initially, the Fiesta was only available with small four-cylinder engines with 975 or 1117 cm3, which offered a power range of 40 to 53 hp. Later (1977), a 1.3-liter with 66 hp was added. Production figures increased, and in August 1979 the Fiesta was the best-selling European Ford model. For sporty small car buyers, however, the standard Fiesta obviously seemed a bit staid. This is where the Ford RS department came into play, allowing the Fiesta to be customized and made faster with accessories and tuning kits.
