Summary
To this day, the Ford Capri is one of the best-known cars of modern times, even though more than 30 years have passed since the last model was built. With almost 1.9 million vehicles produced, the Capri is also one of the most successful cars of its kind. The sports coupé was never really powerful ex works, but those who wanted more power found it with Michael May. His turbocharger turned 108 hp into 180 horsepower. This driving report describes the Ford Capri II including the May turbocharger and shows it in many historical and current pictures. Sales literature and a sound sample round off the article.

The first examples had already been built in 1968, and soon the first 50,000 cars, which were available to buy for DM 6995, had been produced. The Capri had a comparatively simple design with regard to low prices. The body was self-supporting, the front wheels were individually suspended on McPherson struts, while a rigid axle at the rear guided the driven rear wheels. The Capri scored points above all with its Mustang-inspired design.
