The Fiat 8V Supersonic and its predecessor Conrero-Alfa-Romeo

The design was based on a one-off that had been built by Virgilio Conrero for the Swiss Robert Fehlmann for use in the 1953 Mille Miglia. One of the fourteen Fiat 8V Supersonic cars was restored a few years ago and shows the great beauty of the design. This report tells the story of the "Supersonic" and shows the second-to-last Fiat 8V Supersonic built from its most beautiful side.

If you want to say something about the creation of the Fiat 8 Supersonic, you first have to take a look at the Conrero Alfa Romeo. This one-off was built by Virgilio Conrero, a tuning magician from Turin. The Swiss "Gentleman Driver" Robert Fehlmann had approached Conrero with a request to build him a fast car for the 1953 Mille Miglia. The basis was to be the engine of the Alfa Romeo 1900C Sprint, as well as various components from the Fiat 1400 and Lancia Aurelia models. To design the bodywork, Conrero then turned to his friend Giovanni Savonuzzi - known in connection with Cisitalia - who had just been appointed head of design at "Carozzeria Ghia".
