Preview (beginning of the article)
Driving comfort and extravagance - Citroën could still really score points with these in the 1970s. The CX was not a direct successor to the DS, but it fulfilled the function of the Grande Routière, as the DS had previously done, in a contemporary way. The later long-distance runner made its debut in August 1974. It was built for 15 years, and even longer as a station wagon. We drove one of the first series. There are always wonders, such as the car in front of us this afternoon: a Citroën CX 2400 GTI with just under 38,000 kilometers on the clock. Both the exterior and the interior are immaculate, the fabric seats are firm and the notoriously sagging headliner is missing in this example. The condition is - the term is often overused but rightly used here - new. Even the intact, shimmering blue protective film can still be found on the trim strips of the door sills. And not a single hole adorns the boot lid; the first owners only ever attached the removable plates to the lid with magnets, a typical Swiss characteristic, and never screwed them on. Apart from a few scratches in the paintwork from the magnets, covered by the license plate, there are no external traces to suggest that this car was ever in regular use. We even suspect that this 1981 CX 2400 GTI must once have been a real Sunday car.
