In 1986, the first BMW M3, unmistakably a child of its decade with its wide cheeks and rear spoiler, rolled onto the road. The homologation model of the E30 series for the DTM laid the foundation for the legendary sports car dynasty. From this first generation to the more discreet M3 E36 and its successor from the E46 series, the Munich car was constantly refined and underwent major changes. This article tells the story of the three classic M3s and shows the powerful Bavarians in many pictures.
