Various automobile factories had already built sports cars in pre-war Germany, but none came close to the popularity of the BMW 328. After the Second World War, BMW continued the sports car tradition with the V8 two-seater 507. The convertible, which was exceptional in every respect, was the star of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1955, but was only affordable for the well-heeled. BMW was only able to sell 252 vehicles before production was discontinued in March 1959. This report describes the history of the BMW 507 and shows it in many illustrations.

Various automobile factories had already built sports cars in pre-war Germany, but none came close to the popularity of the BMW 328. This vehicle was not only a very elegant car, but it was also capable of winning races. After the Second World War, BMW continued the sports car tradition with the V8 two-seater 507. The convertible, exceptional in every respect, was the star of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in 1955, but was only affordable for the well-heeled. BMW was only able to sell 252 vehicles before production was discontinued in March 1959. When the Second World War came to an end in Europe in May 1945, BMW had to start all over again: The Eisenach automobile factory was located in the East German zone, the engine plant in Berlin-Spandau belonged to the Russians, and the machines from the Munich plant that had been saved over the war were dismantled and transported away as "reparations".
