Summary
Ferry Porsche described the characteristics of the Porsche 911, which has been built for 50 years, more aptly than anyone else: "The 911 is the only car in which you can drive from an African safari to Le Mans, then to the theater and then onto the streets of New York." In this anniversary report, the various Porsche generations are briefly described and six influential exceptional models are presented, supplemented with 90 pictures from 50 years of the Porsche 911.

However, this did not bother the fan community as long as the engine remained where Ferdinand Porsche had already installed it in the predecessor 356 (and the Beetle), namely in the rear. And it was precisely because of this huge fan community that Porsche was never able to establish a more modern successor to the 911 as a replacement, despite interesting approaches such as the 928.
