Which cars are today's classic car information seekers actually interested in? Autscout24 (Germany) answered this question by analyzing Google search queries for over 10,000 models and determining the most popular classic cars in 2025.
The BMW three-seater from the E36 series (90,500 search queries) was far and away the most popular search query between March 2024 and February 2025. The BMW E30 three-seater followed at a considerable distance (with 60,500 queries).
Surprisingly, the Ferrari F40 is on a par with the E30, followed by the Audi 80 with only half the number of searches.
Other entries include the BMW M1, Mazda RX7, Porsche 944, Audi quattro, Ferrari Testarossa, Porsche 924 and Aston Martin Vantage (in 11th place).
The majority of the vehicles are products of German manufacturers, with BMW and Porsche particularly well represented in the top 25.
It is also interesting to see how search frequency has changed between February 2025 and February 2024.
In fact, searches for Talbot Matra Murena increased by 125% in one year. Volvo Amazon, Volvo 240, Lotus Esprit, Jaguar XJ 220 and Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR also made good gains, as did Volvo 740, Ferrari 308 GTS, Toyota Celica and Porsche 959.
Autoscout24 sums up in the summary:
"The classic car scene is livelier than ever and the growing Google search volume speaks a clear language: classic car models are not just a nostalgic memory - they are the cultural heritage of the automotive industry and a trend that will not slow down in 2025. The increase in Google searches clearly shows that people in Germany are enthusiastic about these vehicles. What is particularly interesting is that the list of the most searched-for classic cars is growing year on year. New vehicles are regularly added, finding their place as coveted classics. What is still a youngtimer today could soon be one of the must-haves on collectors' wish lists. This is how a former production model becomes a future classic."
