The Audi 100 was an important milestone for the car manufacturer from Ingolstadt. A traditional exhibition is therefore being dedicated to it, which will be shown in Neckarsulm from June 24 to November 6, 2016. It is a veritable journey back in time to the roots of Audi AG.
The brand with the four rings has won the "Golden Steering Wheel" five times with the Audi 100, twice the "Car of the Year" title and once the "World Car of the Year" award.
Now the successful model is returning to Neckarsulm in the new traditional exhibition "From Zero to 100". With a total of 12 variants of the Audi 100 on display, the company is reviewing the exciting history of the model at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm.
When the Audi 100 was launched in 1968, the brand laid the foundations for a great success story. The model secured the company's position in the automotive industry. From 1970 onwards, the Audi 100 rolled off the production line in Neckarsulm. Its model generations strengthened the location. The successor model, the Audi A6*, is also an important pillar for Audi Neckarsulm today.
In addition to its design, the technical innovations of the second and third model generations of the Audi 100 in particular set new standards in the mid-size segment. From the facelift in 1985, for example, the model was one of the first cars to have a fully galvanized body.
Audi also developed the Audi Duo based on the Audi 100. The company presented this to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1990. The sensation at the time: in addition to its 136 hp five-cylinder engine, the concept car had an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The idea of a hybrid car was thus already born at Audi in 1989.
The traditional exhibition "From Zero to 100" at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm sheds light on the history of the legendary successful model and shows previously unknown facets of its model generations, such as the Audi 100 Cabriolet built in 1969 or the Audi 100 C1 electric car from 1976. The exhibition runs from June 24 to November 6, 2016 and admission is free.
