Steve McQueen had gasoline in his blood, one of his biggest projects ever was the film "Le Mans", which still has cult status today, even though it was a financial flop at the time.
To this day, stories and legends surround the elaborate filming of the movie, during which a camera car even took part in the official race and was even classified. There is great interest in finding out more, so it is no wonder that a film has now been made that looks back 35 years and lets us relive how the cult film "Le Mans" was made back then.
Almost five years passed between the idea (2010) and production (2014). In February 2014, unused film documents from the filming in London at the time were found. In May 2014, the cameras began rolling for additional interviews and shots on the race track in the Sarthe. McQueen's son Chad appeared at the original locations in July 2014. Filming continued in America in August 2014 and the pre-edit was completed in October 2014. This was followed by the work of the graphic designers and the music recordings with a full symphony orchestra in Budapest. In May 2015, the film made it into the "official selection" of the Cannes Film Festival and in June 2015, the film was the opening film at the festival in Bologna.
Now we just have to wait until the film is released in cinemas here in Germany. Here is the trailer:
